KUCHING (Dec 25): The Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei’s columbarium project here is approximately 60 per cent completed.
Anglican Bishop the Rt Rev Datuk Danald Jute said there were some delays due to workers focusing on two other concurrent projects.
“We expect the columbarium to be completed by the end of next year, including the installation of niches, which will be quite tedious in terms of the work,” he said during the Anglican Diocese’s annual Christmas Open House today.
He said the facility will have between 9,000 and 14,000 niches, with the final number to be confirmed.
He thanked the state government for its support as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had approved RM8.5 million exclusively for the columbarium.
In addition to the columbarium, the Anglican Church’s two other projects are a youth centre and a kindergarten.
“The three projects will be completed simultaneously,” said Danald.
The two standalone buildings are both also approximately 60 per cent completed.
Danald added that the progress of the buildings is on track and within expectations.
